Application

International Student Eligibility to Apply to Study in Our Laboratory

For students who desire to study in our laboratory as a master or doctoral student or a research student

We will only review applications from students who meet the following conditions. International students who desire to study in our laboratory are required to contact the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) of Kyoto University.

  1. Financial Eligibility
    1. If you are applying as a master student or a research student
      You must provide documents showing that you will not face any financial difficulties during your study period by being the recipient of a scholarship from MEXT (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan) or the government of your country, or other any scholarship.
    2. If you are applying as a doctoral student
      You must provide documents showing that you will not face any financial difficulties during your study period by being the recipient of a scholarship from MEXT or the government of your country.
  2. Scholastic Capability
    1. You must have the academic equivalent to a 3.0 or higher GPA in your undergraduate or graduate school.
  3. Language skills
    1. You must have English and Japanese skills that fulfill one of the following two conditions.
    1. English Skills
      You are a native English speaker or have a minimum score of 79 in the TOEFL iBT (or 550 in the TOEFL PBT), 780 in the TOEIC, or 6.0 in the IELTS.
      Japanese Skills
      You have a level 3 or higher in the previous Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or an N3 or higher in the current JLPT.
    2. English Skills
      You are a native English speaker or have a minimum score of 61 in the TOEFL iBT (or 500 in the TOEFL PBT), 550 in the TOEIC, or 5.0 in the IELTS.
      Japanese Skills
      You have a level 1 in the previous JLPT or an N1 in the current JLPT.
